Here are answers to some frequently asked questions from students.

The meaning of the Jujitsu translates roughly into the 'gentle art'.

From the British Ju Jitsu Association :

Ju-Jitsu emphasizes turning an attacker's own force against him or herself, putting them off balance. Ju-Jitsu also emphasizes certain grappling moves and strikes to vital areas. A Ju-Jitsu student is expected to learn how to gauge the force of an opponent's attack and use it against him, evade attacks, use leverage against an opponent and how to attack nerves and pressure points.

The main goal in Ju-Jitsu practice is to cultivate a person's mind and body: not to use it as a means to vent one's anger, frustration or emotional problems. The use of force is condoned only in self-defence or in the defence of those who are defenceless.

We train at Shenley Leisure Centre, Shenley Church End in Milton Keynes.
Training sessions are on Mondays in the Theatre and Fridays in the Gym

  • Juniors (ages 8 - 16) - 19:00 to 20:30
  • Seniors (over 16) - 20:30 to 22:00

No, just turn up at a session and talk to one of the instructors.

Initially, gym gear or other loose clothing is fine. A jujitsu suit (gi) is more robust as some techniques often include grabbing and controlling via someone's clothing. You need to have a suit before you can grade to your first belt.

No, the techniques we use rely on principles of leverage, shifting centres of balance, vulnerable points and redirecting attacks safely away from yourself.
